Kobe Chung 22/10/2015 Princess Royal Maternity Glasgow
Took me a while to see if I should post something so personal up online but I thought if this could help anyone or if anybody in the same situation as me could give me advice then I would really appreciate it :D
Kobe didn't open his eyes for the first day or so and when he did... I noticed only 1 opened. He was a very sleepy baby from the get go (still is) so for the first couple of days it was hard for the midwives and paediatricians to have a proper look to see what was going on. The midwives initial advice was to lay him on the side where his eye could open (left) and hopefully reduce the swelling on the other side.

This obviously didn't work... So all the checks were done (make sure he actually had an eyeball and muscles reflexes etc. ) but the paediatrician didn't think anything was wrong and Kobes eye would open in due time. However, a second Paediatrician told me that this was not normal and both Kobes eyes should open. With mixed opinions from 2 professionals... I was even more concerned and worried about him.

I was sent home within a few days and after being seen by the health visitor. I got sent back to the first paediatric to check on his jaundice levels as he was looking pretty yellow, so again I asked about his eye and was told yet again that I had nothing to worry about and his eye would open in the next couple of weeks.
2 weeks later... His eye could now open to a slit... just and no more... But still not happy I went back to the hospital to be seen by a third paediatrician who yet again told me I had nothing to worry about and his eye would open. (By now I felt pretty stupid and as if I was making a drama out off nothing... Like having one eye was the norm...)
My daughter Lotti is at nursery and she picked up a bug and passed it onto Kobe, but being so young he was really struggling to breathe and his chest was beginning to wheeze. So I took him to the Gp immediately and was told to take him to Wishaw Hospital to get checked as he was only 3 weeks old. It turned out he had a chest infection... This is going to sound terrible, but I am so glad that He caught it because whilst he was getting seen. The paediatrician at this hospital referred him to to an ophthalmologist immediately and got seen the same day. They were extremely concerned due to the fact if he didn't begin to open his eye soon... His eyesight could be permanently damaged.
I have been back and forth every couple off weeks to check the progress of his eye and that his eyesight is not deteriorating. Dr Brown diagnosed Kobe with congenital ptosis (droopy eyelid). His eyes get thoroughly checked and also get measured to make sure that his eyelid does need ot fall below the pupil as this could mean the brain is not receiving enough information causing the brain to essentially forget about his eye. Dr Brown has been great and got me referred to the Gartnaval hospital in Glasgow to see an Occuplastic Paediatric surgeon and see what the best procedure is. I have an appointment the end of next month and hopefully I'll have a better understanding of what's going on specifically with my Wee pirates eye 😜

To be honest I think he is pretty darn cute with his Wee eye 😉 but I'm not sure how cute he'll find it when he's older... His sight is first and foremost my biggest worry/concern but It would break my heart if he got bullied for it... Or if he had low self esteem issues later on in life 😞

Love you baby pirate xxx
